Avoca is named after the beach of the same name in my hometown of Sydney.
Growing up there I spent more time that I maybe should have at the beach so I wanted to create a font that embraced a flowing fluidity, inspired by the curls of those waves and the beautiful sea.
When we think of fonts that draw design notes from the beach we inevitably only see either scripts that all look the same, or retro ‘surf styles’. As a designer I pride myself on creating fonts that are not a cliche of a theme. But rather have a more intellectual design nod to my inspiration.
So I thought why not design a classic serif font with a contemporary feel, yet still have my concept in it.
The result is Avoca. A chic, stylish, yet modern font, versatile enough for many different types of print design projects. As well as online on social media posts, Youtube creator titles, websites, and blogs.
